Located to the south-east of Port Chacabuco, to the field feet of Ice North, it takes as a backdrop the impressive wall of the glacier that takes his name: glacier San Rafael. With it there part permanently blocks of bluish color that flood the lagoon, giving origin to an enormous garden of drift ices of diverse forms and sizes.
Declared in 1979 by the UNESCO as Reserve of the Biosphere, the Lagoon shows the kindness of an original ecosystem, where swan of black neck, caiquenes and variety of ducks and cormorants, joined coypus, pudúes, foxes and wolves of sea, they are a part of the beauty of an unexplored zone.
Nothing is alike the majestic dawn that gives the welcome to the navigators on having entered to the Lagoon; or the deafening uproar of the floes parting with the glacier to feed the multicolored waters.
