Portillo offers outstanding skiing, and it's just outside the hotel door. There are 12 ski lifts, including: 2 quad chairs, 1 triple chair, 2 double chairs, 2 famous Va et Vient slingshot lifts and 5 Poma lifts. The ski area is comprised of 15 runs, several of which are wide bowls with generous amounts of terrain, as well as endless off-piste terrain that is easily accessed.Portillo's runs are renown among expert and advanced skiers but are loved by beginners and intermediates as well. Terrain is 10% easiest, 70% intermediate/advanced and 20% very difficult. The easy and intermediate/advanced terrain is groomed on a daily basis, and the most difficult terrain is natural snow pack.Ski Season:
The 2005 season opens June 11th and closes October 8th or perhaps later depending on late-season snow conditions. Portillo ski normally receives an average of 20 feet of snow per season, however in the event of low snowfall, Portillo has extensive snowmaking, which allows for the consistent operation of the ski area once it is open. Temperatures generally do not dip lower than 25ºF, and often guests can ski and soak up the sun in their bathing suits on the same day.

Portillo typically enjoys 80% sunny days, and deep blue skies. At night, the blanket of stars visible from the hotel is simply awe-inspiring. Portillo normally receives an average of 20 feet of snow per season, most of which falls during short, intense snowstorms. In the event of low snowfall, Portillo has extensive snowmaking capabilities, which allows for the consistent operation of the ski resort once it is open.
