Central station the Central station was inaugurated the 14 of September of 1857, when Chile was a young republic that fought to consolidate its autonomy like nation. In that then, two brick buildings accompanied the four existing platforms in the outskirts by Santiago. Municipalidad of Central station, that granted the concession of the sector to the company deprived by a period of 30 years, the area recovered great part of its patrimony constructing a seat in frontis of the enclosure and the implementation of a citizen security system. In 1993 the idea was developed to give a espacialidad to the commercial centers, with good corridors, the commercial premises, was located the Terminal of Bus San Borja. Also the sector was put a roof on, qualifying seats of food, zones of games, rooms of cinema, parking giving him to it the present quality of mall. The commercial center is divided in two separated sectors by the central ship of the station. In the side the west, that receives most of those who go to the terminal, the location of the premises is almost linear and has relief spaces to gather the peatonal traffic. The other has a more relaxed commercial activity. In the outskirts of the Central station, the original idea was the one to rescue the district and to make a space more human, the old thing and the contemporary was united, to give to form to a remodeling of 9,000 meters of sidewalks and roads, that the urban scale of the great station with the peatonal conciliates, obtaining efficient circulations in a traffic zone dense but, amiable and continuous. In frontis of the station one every day stays an artistic seat with entretenciones and activities, with illumination, access to the meter, harmonizing the contemporary facade with the elements of the sector. It is an interesting project, since thanks to a private initiative have been able to recover a National monument, giving renewed east public space to the city generating a zone of recycling towards the sides.
