Usefull Information about Antarctica
These chats are focused on taking proper care of the natural environment, so as not to damage it during the tours.

What will I see during the flight to Antarctica?

Those who arrive in Antarctica by plane will be able to see the Straits of Magellan, Tierra del Fuego, the Darwin Mountain Chain (and its blizzards), Cape Horn (the last rocky outcrop in America) and the Drake Sea, which joins the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.

What animals live on the White Continent?

There are many different species in Antarctica. The most amazing ones are the blue whale, killer whales, sea elephants, Weddell seals, Antarctic wolves and penguins. The most representative penguin species are Adelia, Papua and Antarctic.

What clothes should I take?

Even though your visit is a summer one, you should bear in mind that the temperature is quite low, and there is always a chance of an ice storm. It is advisable to take special clothing for low temperatures, as well as waterproof coats and sunglasses, since sunlight reflected from snow and ice can hurt your eyes.

How can I get money in Antarctica? Can I send letters?

Although it seems unbelievable, Villa Las Estrellas has a bank branch, where you can draw or change money. There is also a Chilean post office agency.

If I get ill, will I have medical assistance?

The scientific and military base in Antarctica has suitable medical services, so in the event you have an accident or get ill, you can be assisted immediately.

Are there any hotels in Antarctica?

There are no hotels or hostels, but it is possible to stay at an inn in Villa Las Estrellas. Here tourists can prolong their stay.

When is Antarctica visited?

The tours are made during the Antarctic summer, which starts in November and ends in February. During the rest of the year it is almost impossible to get there.
