Travelling south from Santiago the landscape becomes increasingly green, signaling the start of one the most exciting zones of the Chile, the South. Over the years, constant rains have transformed the landscape of these regions which are rich in forests, rivers and lakes.
Concepcion, the capital city of the Bio-Bio Region is a modern city sitting one of the most important university of the country. We will surprised by its many parks and recreation places in the middle of a landscape combining forest and maritime attractions.
Going further south we will find Temuco, another fine city, the capital of the Araucania Region and the acknowledged gate to the great lakes zone of Chilean South. Only one and a half hours away is Lake Villarrica, one of the biggest of the country set against the background of the impotent Villarrica Volcano. In the shores of there is two nice resorts. Villarrica and Pucón, well known for its hotels, restaurants and other tourists services.
Further south we will meet the beautiful river city of Valdivia. This town bordered by rivers allows the visit of incredible beauty, like the river Cruces and its Nature Sanctuary or sailing down the Calle-Calle River to the bay of Corral in the pacific ocean where we will find ancient Spaniard colonial fortifications.
Going toward the Andes we will find a number of astonishing lakes and streams where fishing and camping becomes the main activities. Going to the south we find the city of Puerto Montt capital of the Los Lagos Region. In this picturesque City will find first quality hotels and intense commercial activity due that Puerto Montt is the departure point for all the excursions to the Island of Chiloé and the unforgettable visit to the San Rafael glacier.
To visit Puerto Montt and experiencing the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park with its volcanoes, rivers and lakes becomes a wonderful opportunity. Being there is an unforgettable experience; more so if the lake Todos Los Santos is crossed by boat. Also is worth crossing the Andes to Argentina to reach Bariloche over the Nahuel Huapi Lake.
Our travel must go on to the Words End and knowing the magic land of Patagonia an unique place that will surprise everyone. The extreme south, Punta Arenas the capital city of the Magallanes Region located at the Magallanes Strait must be reached by plain or boat from Puerto Montt.
Punta Arenas is the starting point for the excursions to the Torres de Paine National Park one of the most visited of the country. This part of the world is well worth seeing and its beauty will never be forgotten.
